Invoice Forensic Audit

"We take apart your invoice line by line and show you what should not be there."

FreightForensic treats your invoice the way a forensic accountant treats a financial statement — not as a final answer, but as a claim to be verified. We extract every line item, map it to the underlying tariff structure, compare against what was quoted and what the market supports, and flag anything that doesn't hold up.

What we audit:

  • Base linehaul rate — correct tariff at correct discount %
  • Fuel surcharge — correct index at agreed-upon schedule
  • Every accessorial charge — liftgate, detention, residential delivery, redelivery, inside delivery, overlength, hazmat
  • Freight class applied — vs. what your shipment qualifies for
  • Minimum charge application — whether AMC was triggered correctly

Output:

  • Plain-English overcharge summary with dollar amounts
  • Line-by-line invoice annotation
  • Draft dispute letter with regulatory basis
  • Delivered within 24 hours

Rate Benchmarking

"Find out if what you're paying is what everyone else is paying."

FreightForensic pulls current market rate data for your specific origin-destination lanes and compares it against your contract or broker quotes. We use lane-specific data that reflects actual supply and demand on the corridors you run.

What we audit:

  • Contracted rate vs. current spot market rate on each top lane
  • Balance lane vs. imbalance lane identification
  • Annualized savings if rates reflected current market
  • Negotiation brief for carrier/broker contract renewal

Why it matters:

  • Most contracted rates go un-renegotiated for 18+ months
  • Market rates fluctuate — your contract often doesn't follow
  • Brokers have little incentive to tell you rates have dropped

Accessorial Pre-Flight

"Know every charge before your invoice arrives."

Before you book a load, describe the shipment to FreightForensic. We flag every accessorial that could apply, explain what triggers each one, provide a cost estimate, and tell you which ones to address with your broker before the load moves.

Common accessorials we flag:

  • Residential delivery — $75–$150
  • Liftgate at pickup or delivery — $75–$125
  • Detention — $50–$75/hour after 2 hours
  • Redelivery — $75–$150 per attempt
  • Inside delivery — $50–$200
  • Overlength — $30–$150 per item over 8 feet

How it works:

  • Describe your shipment before booking
  • Receive a full accessorial exposure report
  • Negotiate terms with your broker upfront
  • Avoid surprise charges on delivery

Freight Class Optimizer

"Most SMB shippers are paying on the wrong freight class. We find it."

The NMFC system assigns every commodity a class from 50 to 500. Lower class = lower cost. Most SMB shippers accept whatever class the carrier assigned. Carriers have a financial incentive to assign higher classes.

What it does:

  • Analyzes dimensions, weight, and commodity against NMFC rules
  • Identifies whether current class is correct, too high, or at risk
  • Provides correct density calculation and NMFC reference for disputes
  • Estimates annual savings from correct classification

Common misclassification scenarios:

  • Wide-format print materials (Class 100 charged as Class 150)
  • Packaged food goods where density calculation is disputed
  • Building materials where carrier uses blanket high-class tariff
  • Auto parts with mixed commodity descriptions on one BOL
